31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 10 – Quiet Time

My body is a bit sore and tired from all of the home improvement work that I did this past weekend, but I am glad to report that I did make great progress in both the downstairs ceiling and the master bedroom door.  If time allows this week, I’ll be finishing those projects up throughout the week, and if not, then they will be my focus next weekend.  I’m really pushing myself to be more of a “finisher” in projects (hence forcing myself to read the books already in process too), so will not start any new project until the list is finished of incomplete ones.

In the midst of all of the home improvement projects, I was also able to watch four video lessons from Russell Brunson’s Microcontinuity series to meet yesterday’s goal, and I also called a few prospects and read some of my third of four “in process” books.

After loosing my hour of sleep this weekend from daylight savings time, I went to bed fairly early last night.  This was partly due to me being tired, and also partly to facilitate the goal for today.

For a long time, I used to wake up when the house was still quiet and children were still sleeping to have a quiet time with the Lord.  I would either read the Bible and meditate on a passage, or work through a Bible study book of some kind.  I always found that when I had this quiet time in the morning (even though I am definitely NOT a morning person), the rest of my day went smoother.  Even on school mornings, things were not as rushed if I had my quiet time in the morning.

I am not a morning person at all, so getting up early is not something I enjoy (in fact, I very much like sleeping in!), but I also desire to give God the beginning of my day – the “first fruits”.  So, I disciplined myself to get up early before everyone else, and was rewarded with more peaceful days.

Somewhere along the way, I got away from this habit and have noticed that my mornings are more hurried and stressful.  We are rushing to get out of the house, and I am still tired, so that extra 30 minutes of sleep obviously did not help that much!

So, today’s goal is to recommit to a daily quiet time in prayer, meditation, Bible reading, Bible study, etc.  And, since it’s already 8 am, I am pleased to say that today I did get up and have my quiet time, and yes, my morning did go more smoothly.  Right now I am working through a Bible study of sorts.  It is called Financial Freedom by Jim Sammons.  I would highly recommend it, as I have learned a lot about what the Bible has to say about finances.  This series has a DVD component and a workbook – I have already watched all of the DVDs, and am working through the workbook as my Bible study.  I first learned of this seminar through the Duggar Family of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting fame.

Until tomorrow…

To your success,

Dr. Laura
