31 Goals in 31 Days – Day 16 – A Homemade Christmas

Today’s goal has a bit of a long-term effect.  It’s to have a mostly homemade Christmas.  Now, this idea came to mind for three reasons: 1) I love to do crafts and activities and so do my children, 2) it’s less expensive, and 3) it’s often more appreciated than something purchased at the store “just because”.

I’ve recently gone through some of my stash of craft projects (in order, of course, thanks to the banker’s boxes in the closet), and picked out several projects that I would like to make for friends and family.  Combined with a few items I already have (I shop for Christmas, birthdays and other events year-round), this should make for a wonderful gift giving season.  I’ll be working with my children throughout the summer on some projects for them to make for our family as well.

So, today’s goal is to work on one craft project a little bit every day.  I find doing crafts like crosstitching, painting, and quilting very calming, so I am going to piggyback this with my night time routine, and so, before bed, I will read and do a craft.  I’ll adjust my bedtime routine earlier a bit to accommodate.  The other time that I plan on piggybacking this is when I am listening to conference calls or training.  It’s very easy for me to have a notebook nearby for notes and be listening intently while doing a craft project at the same time (crafts require very little of my focus because I have been doing them since I was a child, so there is no technique to learn that would require concentration).

Well, I’ve said enough now, I don’t want to let the cat completely out of the bag, since my family reads this blog!  Now they know to expect a homemade Christmas, but I’ll let their imaginations wander on what that will be for them.

See you tomorrow!

To your success,

Dr. Laura
