Due to recent issues, I am re-starting the CLEAN program again, which means liquid for breakfast and dinner. During my previous CLEAN experience, my favorite go-to liquid meal was the Berry Smoothie. This smoothie is right out of the CLEAN book, but I modify it depending on what I have on hand, and what kind of mood I am in.
But, this smoothie is a great one to have, even as a snack! For me, as I start the CLEAN program again, it’s like coming home to an old friend.
Berry Smoothie
½ cup blueberries, frozen
½ cup raspberries, frozen
1 cup coconut water
¼ avocado
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp agave nectar (or equivalent of stevia)
ice as neededBlend all ingredients together until smooth.
Can also be made with almond milk (I use vanilla flavor, unsweetened) instead of coconut water (eliminate avocado).
Can also add 1 scoop protein powder (I use brown rice protein powder) (eliminate agave nectar).
Doesn’t it look pretty in my new stainless steel cups?
Unless I am making smoothies for the children as a snack, I usually use the Magic Bullet – my favorite little blender, which makes one serving exactly, and is super easy to clean up (just rinse the blade and drip dry!). Another easy clean up method is to use an immersion blender.
What are you doing in the kitchen?

Hi Dr. Laura! Happy Tuesday to you! Your berry smoothie looks yummy! It would make a nice switch from the green smoothie I have most mornings so I will certainly give it a try! I am linking up a great Giada recipe for smoked mozzarella stuffed meatballs with All’amatriciana sauce. All the best! Alex

Alex, I have never been able to find a green smoothie that I liked much. I’m much more of a sugar and sweetness kind of gal, and I just can’t seem to hide all that green food well! I’m going to have to try out your green monstah smoothie. Thanks for linking up!

What a delicious healthy drink. This would be a great way to get kids to eat more veggies/fruits.

Lisa, it’s one of the only ways my children eat veggies/fruits – in liquid form!

Your smoothie sounds delicious, and I love that it uses frozen berries! The avocado is a great addition too. Thanks so much for hosting.
Thanks April. I was surprised about the avocado…was not sure how that would taste, but you can’t even tell it’s in there. The one difference, having had it both with/without is that when you put the avocado in, you stay full longer. When it’s not there, I get hungry faster.

Christy, coconut water is awesome – it’s better hydrating than Gatorade or other drinks like that – but has the same effect – electrolytes, etc. I don’t like to drink the unflavored one straight, but I do like it in smoothies. There are flavored coconut waters that I do like to drink as is, though. Definitely one to pick up on your next trip to the store!

I certainly do like stainless steel cups. We have some too! I like your idea of using coconut water. I’ve been meaning to try that. All I have had so far is coconut milk. Thanks for the idea!

LOVE LOVE LOVE my new stainless steel cups!!! Coconut water is awesome! I don’t drink the regular coconut water straight – only use in smoothies, but I will drink the flavored ones. ONE coconut has a pineapple/coconut and a passion fruit/coconut that are yummy. Even my children love those – and they are WAY better than juices, etc.

I really need to try to remember to make smoothies. They are so delicious and make a great mid meal snack
Tammy, I usually have mine for breakfast, but you are right, they make a great snack any time of the day!
