Minimalist Monday Mission: Declutter 365 – DVD Cabinet

Minimalist Monday Mission

This week for Minimalist Monday Mission: Declutter 365 I organized the DVD area!

We used to have a nice DVD cabinet, but I really didn’t like how it opened, or that I had to prop it up on the larger shelf with an ugly piece of plywood.  It wasn’t very efficient either, since our family would just shove the DVDs back on a shelf, or leave them on the entertainment center area, rather than opening the door and putting them back in the DVD cabinet.

So, when the community lawn sale came, I decided to sell the DVD cabinet.  But not before I took a picture:

Then, I went out and purchased some nice storage cubes from Martha Stewart at my favorite store (Home Depot), and put all the videos into the cubes, along with some miscellaneous computer mice that my husband had lurking in a basket on top of our shelves, and viola, new DVD storage area!

I did take time to go through all of the DVDs as well, to make sure that we wanted to keep them all.  Since most (99.9%) are my husbands, we didn’t get rid of many, and I didn’t go through the children’s DVDs yet – we are scheduled to do that today.

I also organized them alphabetically before placing them inside the storage cubes, and in order to tame the blankets we have (which were also shoved into the shelves previously), I ordered a large rectangle basket and liner from my Thirty-One Gifts business and had it embroidered to say “Blankets”.  It fits perfectly and I love the splash of color!
