This week for Minimalist Monday Mission: Declutter 365 I decluttered the guest room closet (A.K.A. the toy closet)!
This week’s project was to clean out the toy closet. We had this great idea that we would put half of the toys in the closet, and then keep half of them out. Then we would rotate them every few weeks, or just make one toy go into the closet to get one out. Sounded like a great idea, and it worked well for a while, until the toys in the closet became a bit outdated, outgrown and not played with anymore.
Then they just sat there, and sat there…
Until I finally got a chance to empty the whole thing out, which was right before the community lawn sale. Because I was in a hurry all of the toys that were not hauled away to the lawn sale ended up on the bed in piles for a few weeks.
I was forced to clean up the guest room because…ahem…there are guests coming, so it gave me a perfect opportunity to clear out the rest of the closet, organize and put things back that were age appropriate. I got some great blue containers at Home Depot and am totally addicted to the Real Simple closet organizers at Bed, Bath and Beyond, which I purchased for our linens (they even have built in cedar blocks…ahhh…).
Here’s the whole thing before:
And after:
(See all my pretty cedar storage containers from Real Simple?? Maybe they’ll read this and send me some more! I’m out of 20% off coupons from Bed, Bath and Beyond! ha
)
And now I’ll continue my addiction to cedar smelling storage containers as I hit the linen closet in the hallway. This ones is a doozy, filled with all of our wonderful toiletries (which I have been trying to use up frantically!), and more linens, that patiently await their own cedar storage container. Did I mention I love storage containers?

[...] You might notice that there are a lot of adult clothes in there too. Those are mine from back in January when I went through my closet for Project 333. And now, since it’s been 7 months and more than one season and I still haven’t worn these clothes, I went through most and donated them. The ones I kept for occasional use (like the formal dresses), I moved to the guest room closet. [...]
