By simplify, on March 5th, 2012% I picked up a copy of the book Your Money or Your Life a few years ago and it sit gathering dust on the shelf for quite some time.
A few weeks ago I was browsing around Netflix and came across a documentary called Maxed Out that looked interesting. And it was. Maxed Out is like the Food, Inc. movie for credit cards and money.
I remember clearly never looking at food again (especially hamburgers) after watching Food, Inc. and it still has had an impact on what I eat to this day. The same was true after watching Maxed . . . → Read More: Your Money or Your Life?
By simplify, on March 4th, 2012% My latest read was Mercy Come Morning by Lisa Bergren. This was the first time I had read a book authored by Lisa and I was impressed.
Mercy Come Morning is a touching story of the lives Krista, her mother Charlotte who has Alzheimers, and Dane, who runs the nursing home where Charlotte lives.
Oh yeah…and Dane just happens to be an old flame of Krista’s.
When Charlotte takes a turn for the worse, Krista comes back to Taos, New Mexico to face her mother, and her demons from the past. Krista struggles with feelings toward her mother that stem . . . → Read More: Book Review – Mercy Come Morning
By simplify, on February 2nd, 2012% You might say I’m on a Cindy Woodsmall kick…and you would be right!
I love reading series of Amish fiction stories, but really love when they all come together in one volume. This is the case with Sisters of the Quilt trilogy.
Sisters of the Quilt is the complete trilogy in one volume, and includes: When the Heart Cries, When the Morning Comes, and When the Soul Mends.
As is the case with all of Cindy’s books that I have read so far, the Sisters of the Quilt series captures you from the very beginning and holds you until the . . . → Read More: Book Review – Sisters of the Quilt
By simplify, on December 27th, 2011% I became a fan of Tsh Oxenreider of Simple Mom when I read her first book Organized Simplicity. And she has done it again with One Bite at a Time – 52 Projects for Making Life Simpler.
I am all about simplifying and I love to read other’s work on the subject. In fact, I devoured Tsh’s book in just one sitting!
Although these projects are designed to be spread out over time, I have several that really resonated with me that I will be working on in the next few months:
Establish a morning routine (although I have one, . . . → Read More: Book Review – One Bite At A Time
By simplify, on December 19th, 2011% I was recently introduced to Amish fiction author Cindy Woodsmall when I read her book The Christmas Singing.
I love Amish fiction and Cindy is a phenomenal writer. The latest trilogy of books for the Ada’s House series are fun, upbeat, and full of wonderful characters.
Since I like to read things in order, and I had read some previous reviews of The Harvest of Grace, which is book 3 in the series, saying that it was better to read them in order, I did just that.
First comes The Hope of Refuge, followed by The Bridge of Peace and . . . → Read More: Book Review – The Harvest of Grace
By simplify, on December 6th, 2011% I love reading Amish fiction and I am a huge fan of popular Amish fiction authors like Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter.
So, when I was given the opportunity to read The Christmas Singing by Cindy Woodsmall, I jumped at the opportunity…and was not disappointed.
If you love Amish fiction, you will love The Christmas Singing! I was hooked from the very first chapter and finished the book in less than a day because I couldn’t put it down!
The Christmas Singing is the story of Mattie and Gideon. Separated through life’s circumstances and reunited by tragedy…can they give love . . . → Read More: Book Review – The Christmas Singing
By simplify, on November 29th, 2011% As I am currently in the midst of one of the biggest trials in my adult life, when I saw As Silver Refined: Answers to Life’s Disappointments by Kay Arthur, I really felt that God was leading me to read this book. And I was right.
I have never read any of Kay’s other works (which are many), but I will be reading her work in the future. Not only does Kay do a marvelous job of storytelling and sharing things from her own personal trials, but she backs it all up with solid scripture.
I was so encouraged when . . . → Read More: Book Review – As Silver Refined
By simplify, on April 8th, 2011% Recently, I received a copy of Faith Janes‘ new eBook Family-Sized Minimalism and I must say…I love it!
I know there are many eBooks on the market about minimalist living, but what I love about Faith’s book is that it is focused on living a minimalist lifestyle with a family.
I know when I first started on my minimalist journey, one of my favorite authors on the topic of minimalism was Joshua Becker, because he writes from a realistic family-based perspective. And that’s what I love about Family-Sized Minimalism too!
It’s packed full of down-to-earth realistic suggestions and ideas to . . . → Read More: Book Review – Family-Sized Minimalism
By simplify, on March 3rd, 2011% About a week ago, Mike Donghia from The Art of Minimalism sent me an advance copy of his new eBook Rise Above the Noise for my review. Having read almost all the minimalist books out there so far, I sat down for what I thought would be a reminder of what I already knew.
Instead, I found Rise Above the Noise to be a thought-provoking multi-faceted work of art. Truly. There are so many things that Mike writes about that Rise Above the Noise goes far beyond “just another minimalist book”.
Sometimes, in our busyness, we scramble to get things . . . → Read More: Book Review – Rise Above The Noise
By simplify, on February 17th, 2011% Organized Simplicity is the work of Tsh Oxenreider from SimpleMom.net. I’m a fan of Simple Mom, so I was anxious to read Tsh’s book on simplicity.
Organized Simplicity is more than just a decluttering book, it’s a look at the “behind the scenes” actions that are needed to make the decluttering process a success.
The book is divided into two sections:
Part 1 is about Living Simply in the Real World
Part 2 is about Ten Days to a Simpler, More Organized Home
What makes this book different from other organizing and decluttering books . . . → Read More: Book Review – Organized Simplicity
